Orders
Geneva, Vancouver and Matochkin Shar: Seek and persuade Bluesky Tendencies scientists.

Greetings. Your success is heartening.

Your next mission is to provide us with the brains we need to build a new R&D department. The Yamaguchi executives you persuaded provided us with information regarding the whereabouts of some top scientific personnel. Bluesky Tendencies has laboratories in Geneva, Vancouver and Matochkin Shar. All had Grade A scientific personnel assigned to them. As soon as your agents reach any of these destinations, a UTOPIA identkey trace in the local network should pick out target personnel.

These scientists are some of the most prized brains in the Syndicate. It is imperative that they come to no harm.

Update: The mysterious Church of the New Epoch gains more members hourly, converting citizens with a combination of brainwashing and CHIP hacking techniques. The converts show little evidence of genuine religious motivation. The Church of the New Epoch tells its followers that the end of the world is near and that only the Church possesses the technology to save the faithful from the Cataclysm. Their doctrine is defiantly anti-Syndicate.

Significantly, Unguided citizens don't necessarily join this cult, even when they encounter its zealots.

It also seems that our Persuadertrons do not work on the cultists themselves. We don't know why. We know practically nothing about the cult's technology but research into it has now begun as a matter of the highest priority. Their technical expertise is unquestionably impressive.

PC Walkthrough from Official Tips

Equip your men with miniguns KO gas and a persuadertron. You will get jumped at the IML as soon as you arrive so be ready. The Bluesky Laboritories are defended by security forces, which you would be better off persuading, as they will help against the unguided onslaught that attacks you from all sides after you persuade the scientists.

Watch out for someone shooting the scientists in a crossfire. Once the unguided have been dealt with, head back to the IML, where a zealot ambush awaits. They will be using ion mines, so be sure to clear the area before your presuaded people catch up.

At some point in this city drop, a zealot convoy will enter the city, and be ambushed by the unguided forces. This convoy is in the possession of a large sum of cash which the unguided are trying to steal.

OBJECTIVE:

Persuade the scientists.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

see REF 3 Geneva

MISSION TACTICS:

Welcome to the last trainer Mission -- it's also the first real challenging mission.

Your Mission is to persuade 2 scientists that are guarded by policemen. But more important: this Mission can provide you with the money you so desperately need.

There are three cars, driven by Zealots. Each car has a suitcase of 200000 credits. As you arrive in the town, a battle will be going on more eastwards of the map. The battle is between the Unguided and some Epoch agents. Let the Unguideds do the dirty work; as soon as the cars are destroyed, join the battle and kill the remaining Unguided with the miniguns. Look out for the policemen, because they work with the Unguideds in this mission. Take the suitcases as a reward. As you walk closer to the location of the scientists, you'll encounter some more Unguided and policemen. Only two will attack you at the same time.

Don't get too close to the scientists yet. When they notice you, they'll run away to the nearest tube entrance, and they will be transported to the other side of town before you know it. Stay close to the wall of the building, and first kill the two agents who will approach you. Wait until the other two (who are closer to the scientists) decide to leave their position. Then take those two out too. Now you can go to the scientists, armed with the persuadertron. They'll start running, but they'll stop as soon as they are persuaded to stay. Now run full speed to the tube entrance to the south, because Unguided forces are starting to close in on you from all directions. Take the tube (by walking through it) and it will take you quite close the IML point. Watch out for the scientists when they leave the tube, because they will start to walk back to the original tube entrance. It's not a bug: you just clicked more than once on the tube entrance to get all the agents boarded.

Go back to the IML point and kill the two zealots who are waiting there. Be sure to be a little bit ahead of the scientists. But you must also be sure that no Unguided is sneaking up from behind, because this way he would have a clear shot on the scientists. It's only a matter of time before the Unguideds will notice the escape by tube, and if you wait to long, you will have to deal with them and at the same time protect the scientists. This is almost an impossible task.

Walk to the IML point, and your Mission is over.

Note: Check the money bug, related to this mission.

Message ends.

PC Walkthrough by Mefistotelis

Message Type: DIRECT

Priority: 2

Message begins:

Surveillance simulation

Results standard deviation: Very low

New weapons: Ion Mine (unobtainable)

Possible loot: 600k cr, 2 Scientists

Mission peculiarity: Recurring if not completed

Watch out for the Police - some of them seems to see you even when your weapons are hidden. At start you'll see a fight between Police and the Unguided, after a while Zealots will join the shooting.

Don't involve into fight too soon - let them fight until only a few remain. You'll find 200,000 credits in each of 3 suitcases dropped by Zealots, one in each of their vehicles (Unguided will try to get the money). When you run to pick up the money, watch out for buildings - one of them may collapse. If you won't involve into the fight till end, survivor Zealot cars may start patrolling the city.

Clear the police surrounding the building with Scientists. But don't go near the Scrientists until you're ready - if you do, they will run towards Transport Tube, and will end up trying to blend in the croud around IML Station; persuading them at that point would be more risky, because of Zealots which will spawn after the Scientists are persuaded.

At this point you should evacuate to an IML Station. But you do not want that. This is a special recurring level - you can repeat it forever, as long as you never complete it. Each time you repeat it, you can get the credits, and two more Scientists. So pause the game and quit the mission. Not completing it will not affect further progress.

In case you continue: During evacuation, at the evac point, two Zealots will be waiting for you. Zealots will have an Ion Mine - don't try to pick it, or it will activate!

Additional hints

A single Transport Tube only works in one direction.

You can move through Transport Tubes But you'd have to practice a bit to know how it works.

Standing with persuadertron at end of the transport tube, while triggering the scientists escape with other agents, is a valid strategy. Though a small group of Unguided spawns there, so you should be careful.

You can only pick up Ion Mines when your agent already has one, and it is the selected weapon.

You may want to kill all civilians around the mine - it is generally anti-vehicle weapon, but when it explodes in a croud, electricity jumps between people, possibly killing a lot of your persuaded crowd.
