TRANSPORT AND VEHICLES

SYNDICATE WARS - TYPES OF VEHICLES

Armored vehicles

This class includes Hover APCs (two types) and Missle Tank.

Only the Missle Tank contains its own weapon platform. It is quite hard to deal with it, because it has high fire rate. You can destroy it with Ion Mines and Plasma Lances or Launchers.

Original game only: If you can enter one, it has some interesting quirks. It replenishes your weapon energy so you can use Clone Shield indefinitely. Due to a bug, range of the rockets depend on current weapon, so use LR Rifle for best results. And you can turn it into an automatic turret with multiplied firepower - put 3 drugged agents in, and select the one outside. The 3 agents will then shoot 3 missles at the same time, multiplying the damage (though visually it is hard to distinguish the 3 missles).

APCs can be found in on-road and flying versions. As they are military vehicles, you will usually find Adversaries with lasers inside. If you can get one for you, this may be a big help during the mission.

Hoverbikes

These are usually road vehicles, but there is also flying version. They are civilian vehicles, but Unguided seems to like them - you will often find Unguided groups aproaching in these bikes.

Boats

What is on the sea is basically not your concern in Syndicate Wars. Boats won't fire or bother you in any way. They may be docked in port, or be on the move, but they never affect your mission.

Besides, there is no way to board them.

The developers intended them to works as ferries, being able to board and unboard people. But that was never finished.

Civilian vehicles

You'll find many of them on the city streets. Usually used by civilians, but sometimes also by other groups.

Taking them down with minigun or laser requires some time, so better use Launchers or Ion Mine. Yes, one Ion Mine should be enough.

Emergency vehicles

Emergency vehicles have better armor than civilian ones. They include two police cars, ambulance and fire car.

Police Cars are usually occupied by Police. It is quite hard to get oficers out of the car, so you will probably have to destroy it. Though if they are assigned patrolling task, they will get out occasinally at random. Either way, it is prudent to deal with them before mission, because if they'll engage you during other tasks, you may have a large problem. There are flying versions of both Police Cars.

Ambulances usually carry civilians or scientists. If this is the second case, don't forget to persuade them at end of the mission - the more scientists you have, the better.

Fire cars are quite rare, and typically occupied by civilians. Though you will find enemies utilizing one for a short ride during a mission in New Delhi.

Robots and Mechas

These are usually in Zealots hands. The Claw Mech is similar to a tank - also carries missle platform, and in original game you encounter the same quirks when boarding it (well it is also black in PC release, due to a bug where the game always treats its position as if at the edge of the map, and vehicles at edge of the map are darkened).

The Mecha is only used on the last level (if we talk about the campaigns - there are some extra levels which feature them). Due to a bug which was most likely intentionally left unfixed, the enemy driver never enters it. This makes that level at least a little easier, but also gives you opportunity to try it. It fires rockets, but after each shot it has a small chance to start charging its special weapon.

Original game only: The Mecha is never used in battle (you will see it - but there is no easy way to board it). If you know enough about the game, it is possible to find your way to the inaccessible area with it.

SyndWarsFX only: The place where the Mecha is parked is accessible, you can just go there and enter it. Do not expect it to last very long if surrounded by Plasma Lances though. You can also find a mod which fixes the bug with original driver not boarding it, and face it as the developers intended.

Public vehicles

These are just civilian vehicles, but sometimes used by other fractions. The taxi vehicles have flying versions.

Space shuttle

Space shuttle is quite rare vehicle. It won't allow you to fly into space during mission, and it is too large to use it on a mission, so you won't make any use of these. They are only in flying version.

IML Trains

The trains are heavily armored, and can only move on rails. You will find them useful on some missions, especially because AI is not able to use them.

Transport vehicles

First of these is the favourite Zealot vehicle, the two other are civilian vehicles. All of them can be found in flying versions.
